About Dr. Gabriel J. Rich III, DDS, PA
Dr. Rich started his career as a public health dentist in Florida in 1982. He worked as a commissioned lieutenant in the Public Health Service and had a private practice in Raleigh, North Carolina for over 30 years.
With years of experience in the public health sector, Dr. Rich has a passion for innovative and accessible health care services. In the last year, access to dental health care has become more challenging because of the pandemic. This was when Dr. Rich came across Teledentistry, which allowed for a more accessible and safe teledentistry practice.

Dr. Rich was commissioned as a lieutenant in the United States Public Health Service program from 1982 to 1985. He was a clinician and Clinic director in Century, Florida (Pensacola).
In 1985, Dr Rich joined the practice of John Povlich DDS in Raleigh, North Carolina. He quickly became active in leadership roles in organized Dentistry, serving as a president of the Raleigh Wake County Dental society and president of the North Carolina academy of general dentistry. Dr. Rich has been a lifelong member of the Academy of General Dentistry, North Carolina Dental Society, serving on government regulations and annual sessions committees. Dr. Rich has been a member of the American Dental Association for over 40 years beginning as a student member in 1978.
Dr Rich embraces continuing education and studied Esthetic crown and Bridge Dentistry, treatment of TMD disorders, Implant Dentistry and all aspects of advanced general dentistry. He was recognized for his educational achievements by receiving his Fellowship in the AGD. Attending a one year Implant Dentistry curriculum at the Medical College of Georgia, after which he passed written and oral qualifying exams to receive his associate Fellowship in the American Academy of Implant Dentistry. Recognized for his work in the profession, providing continuing education and mentoring, Dr. Rich received honorary fellowships in the American and International College of dentists.
Dr. Rich’s philosophies of giving back to the local and World communities continued with his involvement in Rotary International serving as president of the Millbrook Rotary Club and on the board of directors of the Wilmington Rotary Club. Dr. Rich has made 4 humanitarian Dental trips to Crimea, Ukraine to assist children in state-run orphanages.
He has a passion for sports Dentistry working with women’s pro soccer, amateur sports, and served as the official team dentist for the NHL Carolina Hurricanes for 21 years. He participated in the team’s two Stanley Cup appearances in 2002 and 2006, hosting the Stanley Cup with the 2016 team.
In 2010, Dr Rich filled a lifelong dream of starting a new teledentistry practice. After serving the Research Triangle area for 32 years, he opened Riverside Dental Arts in Wilmington North Carolina. This practice was an adult General Dentistry practice offering Comprehensive Dental Services. Always passionate about the Arts and helping others, Dr. Rich served on the Cape Fear Community College’s Foundation board for five years as well as mentoring and lecturing at the CFCC Dental Assisting and Dental Hygiene programs. Dr. Rich is a founding partner of the CFCC Wilson Center of the Performing Arts.
He supported the No Boundaries Artist Colony nonprofit in Wilmington. Riverside Dental Arts displayed the artwork collection from No Boundaries in his office.

Karen
Karen received her degree in Dental Hygiene from Onondaga Community College in New York in 1984. After practicing in New York, she move to California and continued her education, receiving training in Administration of Local Anesthetic and N2O/Oxygen Sedation from the University of California at San Francisco. She practiced in California for 9 years and then moved to Indiana to continue her career. She received additional training in Pain management in dentistry from Indiana University.
In 2016 she moved to Wilmington NC where she is currently practicing.
Amanda Irwin, RDH
Amanda received her Dental Hygiene degree from Coastal Carolina in 1996. The majority of her 26 clinical years have been spent in private practice; specifically family, cosmetic and implant dentistry.
Amanda loves outdoor activities and is a native Wilmingtonian. She continues to boat, paddle board and enjoy everything the coast and white sandy beaches have to offer.
She raised an extraordinary son who now attends the United States Coast Guard Academy, and plays baseball for the college as well.
Sherryl Gilliam
Sherryl Gilliam is a North Carolina native from Burlington NC. She attended Guilford Technical Community College where she earned her degree as a Registered Dental Hygienist now with 40 years of experience. Currently living in Wrightsville Beach NC working clinically part-time. She has 2 grandchildren and enjoys travel and pickleball.
